President Masoud Pezeshkian made clear that while promises of leaders in the past have disappointed, his promises are not moot. His acceptance speech came after celebrating the day of Ashura, commemorating the betrayal of Hussain in Karbala, when promises were broken, endangering the very existence of Islam. He's determined to bring Iran back into a balanced relationship with the West, as well as to find domestic peace.
